The Zenkit table view looks just as you’d expect it to – like an Excel or Google Docs spreadsheet. It is structured using columns and rows, and there are headers at the top of each column. The difference with Zenkit is that columns represent fields of data, and rows represent items.
Here’s how it all comes together:
Creating items in table view
Click on the "+" icon in the top left corner to create a new row.
Alternatively, you can move to any cell in the grey bar that appears at the bottom of the table with your arrow keys. Hit 'Enter' to edit the field and ‘Ctrl+Enter’ to confirm. You can also click on any grey cell at the bottom to add the next Item.
Columns
The column headers are actually custom fields. When you add a new column, you create a new field in the list and can define how information in that field should behave.
If you want to learn more about custom fields and adding new fields, please read our guide to basic fields.
Selecting rows
If you hover over the row numbers on the left, a grey box will appear around the number. Click on it to select the row. The selected rows are blue. If you select multiple rows, you can perform bulk actions, meaning you can make changes to multiple items at once.
To learn more about bulk actions, check out our bulk actions article. You can also click and drag to select multiple items in a row, or use shortcuts to select items.
Sorting items
Sorting is very simple. Just click on the arrow icons next to the column header to sort ascending (A-Z, 1-9). Click again to sort descending (Z-A, 9-1). Click a third time to remove the sort on that column.
The sort direction is shown with a small arrow icon next to the field name.
You can see which sorting is currently applied to your table on the right above the table.
Click on this to add further sort orders to the table view. You can now add further sort orders by clicking on the field with the "+" symbol.
You can also determine within this menu whether the sorting should be ascending or descending. Click on "Ascending" here to select from a small window.
Hiding fields (columns)
To hide a field (column), click on the field name (column header) and click "Hide".
To show a field again after it has been hidden, click on the "..." icon at the top right to open the view options menu. Click on "Visible columns". Select the columns to be shown or hidden by clicking on the buttons.
To make a column appear, just click the toggle to the 'on' position (it will be green).
Archiving fields (columns)
To delete a field (column) from your list, click on the field name (column heading) and then select "Archive field" from the drop-down menu.
You must then confirm that you want to delete this field.
To remove the field permanently, open the collection settings and select "Fields". Below the list of all fields, you can now click "Archived fields" to view them. You can then permanently delete the fields that have already been archived or restore them.
Please note that deleting a field is permanent! You won't be able to retrieve the field once it's gone, so make sure you really want to remove it before you do!
Changing column width
Some fields contain a lot of information, so in Zenkit you can change the width of your columns so you can see that all at once. Just click and hold a divider next to the column header, and drag to the width you want.
Reordering columns
You can also change the order of your columns easily: click on a column header to drag and drop it to where you need it to be.
Reordering tables in this way won't affect how other members see the table.
