In Zenkit, a chat is automatically created for each new list. You can use this to communicate with other list members and view the list's activities. Furthermore, personal chats are also available in which you can communicate with individuals.
You can either view "All" chats at a glance or select from "Personal", "Unread" and "Hidden".
In the All section, as the name suggests, you can see all the chats that exist in your organization.
Personal Chats
In the "Personal" section, you can see the 1:1 chats with a single person or with a group that exists outside of a list. You can create a chat with someone by clicking the "+" symbol at the top of the chat area, searching for someone or inviting them to Zenkit by email.
1:1 Chats
Chats that only consist of two people can be edited with a few limited settings. For example, you can mute the chat, pin it and, of course, delete it. You can access the options just mentioned by hovering over the person's name in the chat overview and clicking on the "..." symbol. This will open the settings.
Creating group chats
Group chats are a way to chat with multiple other people, just like any group chat you participate in on another chat app. Zenkit also allows you to create tasks in the chat, assign them to anyone and access them in the shared tasks area. Perfect for planning a party, getting the housework done or keeping your small team on track!
Finally, give your chat a name, choose which organization it should belong to and, last but not least, add the desired members.
As soon as all the desired settings have been made, you can click on "Create".
You can access the group chat settings in the same way as for 1:1 chats. Simply click on the "..." symbol again and select "Settings".
Pin chats
You may have chats that are more important than others. So that you can always see them, you can "pin" them to the top. Pinned chats always remain at the top of the list, regardless of whether newer messages have arrived in other chats.
You can pin a chat by hovering over the chat in the overview and clicking on the "..." symbol on the right-hand side. Select "Pin to top" here.
Sending messages, files and drawings
Whether it's a group chat, 1:1 chat or chat to a list, you can attach files and drawings to your messages in any of these chats. You can also continue to send voice messages.
Simply click on the "+" symbol to the right of the text field and select the desired action.
Writing a new message
To write a new message, simply enter the text field at the bottom of the chat. If you want to share files or links, a small preview of them will be displayed above the message.
Basic text formatting such as bold or italic text can be achieved with keyboard shortcuts (e.g. Ctrl/Cmd+B or Ctrl/Cmd+I).
To send the message, tap or click on the small paper airplane icon on the right, or in the web or desktop version you can also use the Enter/Return key.
Sending files in the chat
Click "Select file" to attach a file to your messages. The file manager of your device will open, where you can select several files to send. Alternatively, you can drag & drop an image onto the message field. Move the mouse pointer over the message input field until the message "Drop files here" is displayed. You can also paste any files you have in your clipboard directly into the message field using the key combination Ctrl / Command + V.
Sending drawings in the chat
Alternatively, if you select "Drawing", a canvas will open on which you can draw anything and send it to the chat as an image file.
