The Kanban view in Zenkit looks like any other Kanban tool. However, in Zenkit, a list in Kanban actually represents a label in a label field.

Here's how it works:

Labels and list headings

When you create a new project, it first opens in Kanban view with a Stage field that contains the labels 'To-Do', 'In Progress', and 'Done'. This label field and its labels are used to create the lists in the Kanban view. To create a new list, click on the "Add Stage" button. Type the name of your list (also known as another label in the 'Stage' field) and then press Enter.

When you create a new task under this heading or move it from one list to another, this label will be applied to the task.

Tasks in the 'To Do' list have the 'To Do' label in the 'Stage' field. You can create multiple label fields in your project and group your Kanban views by these fields. In addition to the 'Phase' field, you can create, for example, 'Urgency', 'Priority' or 'Department' and add the corresponding labels.

Create tasks in the Kanban view

Click on the "+" button next to the list name to create a new entry at the top of the Kanban list.

Alternatively, hover your mouse over the bottom of a list to which you want to add a task. A tab with the words "Add task" will appear where you can type in your new task.

Move tasks in the Kanban view

To move a task within a list, simply drag and drop it to the desired position. Alternatively, you can hover over the task and click on the vertical "..." icon to open the quick edit menu and then click on "Change position".

Moving tasks back and forth between lists (labels) works the same way. You can drag and drop them over the lists...

...or simply apply another label to a task and it will be moved to the correct bar accordingly.

Reorder lists

If you want to display your lists in a different order (e.g. If you want to see the 'In Progress' list first because you want to see which steps have already been started), you can easily reorder the lists. Click and hold the list header to drag and drop the entire list to the desired location.

Please note: Every project member can see when you rearrange the Kanban lists.

Change list headings

Your tasks can be grouped using any label- or member fields as Kanban list headers. If you have label fields beside the stages, for example: 'Priority' (high, medium, low), you can switch between the two or any other label- or member field you create. Click on the "..." icon in the upper right corner to open the viewing options.

Click on "Vertical Grouping" and then select the desired label field from the menu.

To use a specific field as a list heading, open the project settings and in it the "Fields" section. Select the field that you would like to make your list heading. In the "Actions" section you can select "Use as kanban list header", which will make the field your heading.

Sorting Kanban Lists

You can sort the tasks in your Kanban lists by any field in your project. Click on "Sorted by" in the "Sorting" section to select the field you want to sort by. Once you have selected a field, you can choose whether to sort in ascending or descending order.

The "Manual (Default)" option is the initial sorting determined by dragging and dropping tasks into the lists.

Horizontal grouping

In Kanban view, you can group your tasks by labels vertically and horizontally, similar to a matrix.

Click on the "..." icon in the upper right corner to open the view options. Select "Horizontal Grouping" and pick the label- or member field you want to group your tasks by. For example, you can group by stage vs member or priority vs stage. To return to the normal Kanban view, open the viewing preferences again and select "Empty" in the horizontal grouping field.
